MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD- DEFINITION AND FAMILIARITIES

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:
TOPIC 1. NATURE OF MATHEMATICS

1.)WHAT IS MATHEMATICS?
*The abstract science of number quantity ,and space.Mathematics maybe studied in it's own right (pure mathematics),or as it is applied to other disciplines such as physics and engineering (applied mathematics).
*Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape , quantity, and arrangement .Math is all around us and in everything we do.

2.) WHERE IS MATHEMATICS?

*Math is all around us in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and modern)art, money engineering and even sports.
*A few examples include the number of spirals in a pine cone , pineapple or seeds in a sunflower or the number of petals on a flower. The numbers in this sequence also form a unique shape known as a fibonacci ,spiral which again ,we see in nature in the form of hurricanes.

3.)WHAT ROLE DOES MATHEMATICS?

*It gives us a way to understand patterns ,to quantity relationships ,and to predict the future.Math is a powerful tool for global understanding and communication using it, students can make sense of the world and solve complex and real problems .

*Mathematics provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigor. In addition, mathematical knowledge plays a crucial role in understanding the contents of other  school subjects  such as science ,social studies, and even music and art.

TOPIC 2.PATTERNS AND NUMBERS IN NATURE AND THE WORLD

1.) WHAT IS PATTERN AND  REGULARITIES ?
*Patterns in nature are visible regularities of form found in the natural world .These patterns recur in different context ,and can sometimes be modelled mathematically .Natural patterns include symmetries, trees, spirals, meanders ,waves, foams , tesselation ,cracks ,and stripes.
*Regularity-a property of polygons:the property of having equal sides and equal angles geometrical regularity.symmetricalness , symmetry, correspondence, balance, (mathematics)an attribute of a shape  or relation;exact reflection of form on opposite sides of a dividing line or plane .
*All of the patterns considered this resources are mathematical. That means that they all have some kind of regularity .The patterns can always be described in words ,using terms such as :made of.

1.1WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF PATTERNS AND DEFINITIONS?

*A pattern is a series of sequence that repeats .Math patterns are sequence that repeat based on the rule ,and rule is a set way to calculate or solve a problem.
*There are three types of patterns that are commonly used in mathematics; repeating pattern:a pattern that keeps repeating over and over again in the sequence of number is called the repeating pattern.
*The definition of a pattern is someone or something used as a model to make a copy ,a design ,or an expected action. An example of a pattern is the paper section of seamstress uses to make a dress;a dress pattern.polka dot is also an example of pattern and even a rush hour traffic is also an example of pattern but it is  called  a traffic pattern.

TOPIC 3.FIBONACCI SEQUENCE

1.)WHAT IS FIBONACCI SEQUENCE ?GIVE EXAMPLES:

*The fibonacci sequence is a set of numbers that starts with a one or a zero ,followed by a one and proceeds based on the rule that each number(called a fibonacci  number)is equal to the sum of preceding two numbers.
*The fibonacci sequence is significant because of the so called golden ratio of 1.618,or it's inverse 0.618.In the fibonacci sequence any given number is approximately 1.618 times the preceding number, ignoring the first few numbers.
*Example:
Fibonacci sequence=0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13...."3" is obtained by adding the third and fourth term(1+2)and so on.For example the next term after 21 can be found by adding 13 and 21.Therefore the next term in the sequence is 34.

2.)WHAT IS  GOLDEN RATIO IN NATURE?
*The golden ratio is about 1.618,and represented by the Greek letter phi, ΓΈ ....The golden ratio is sometimes called the "divine proportion" because of it's frequency in the natural world .The number of petals in a flower .for instance, will often be a fibonacci number .

3.)WHAT IS GOLDEN RATIO IN ART?
*Mathematically speaking the golden ratio is a ratio is a ratio of 1 to 1.618 which is also known as the golden number...In our artworks ,this ratio creates a pleasing aesthetic through the balance and harmony it creates .

4.) WHAT IS GOLDEN RATIO IN ARCHITECTURE?
*Ancient Greek  architecture used the golden ratio to determine pleasing dimensional relationships between  the width of a building and it's height and size of the portico and even the position of the columns supporting the structure. The final result is a building that feels entirely in proportion.

TOPIC 4: APPLICATIONS OF MATHEMATICS IN THE WORLD

1.)IN OUR DAILY LIFE ,HOW DO WE USE MATHEMATICS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY IN VARIOUS FIELDS ?

*Mathematics provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigor . In addition mathematical knowledge plays a crucial role in understanding the contents of other school subjects such as science, social studies, and even music and art .
*Numeracy skills give children an important start to their learning and development. They also help prepare them for daily life at all ages. For example,in handling money and problem-solving.
*There are also daily task for which math is important:
•managing money
•balancing check book
•shopping for the best price
•preparing food
•figuring out distance, time ,and cost for travel.
