Farmers help us in finding good foods and crops but why are they treated unfairly .The results revealed that common problems encountered by rice Farmers were:high cost of inputs ,low price of palay ,lack of capital ,labor problem ,lack of postharvest facilities pest and diseases and irrigation system.
WHY FARMERS ARE POOR IN THE PHILIPPINES?
The reasons are three fold: the lack of accountability among Farmers cooperative leaders; cooperatives and Farmers associations are formed mainly to access dole-outs ; and the government agency (e.g.,CDA),which has oversight responsibility on cooperatives.Our country is no stranger to crisis ;from natural calamities to social and political turbulence,the Philippines consistently ranks among the riskiest countries I'm the world. The high level of poverty among our Farmers also makes them highly at risk for the effects of these crises.Farmers are really important in the Philippines because agriculture plays a significant role in the Philippine economy . Involving about 40% of Filipino workers ,it contributes an average of 20 percent to the Gross domestic product . The neglect of the agrii sector and the uneven distribution of resources worsened the poverty situation in rural areas .Last year ,we were subjected to a major crisis with the spread of COVID -19 .And then,as if one humanitarian crisis was not enough,it was also during the spread of the virus when typhoons wrecked havoc on the country.Indeed , to live in the Philippines means to live in constant danger and uncertainty. But there is one sector that bears the brunt of these cries the most.Considered the the backbone of our society ,the agriculture sector responds to our public health needs by ensuring food security for every Filipino .Yet despite their crucial role , Filipino agricultural workers remain among the poorest and most disadvantaged groups in our society.That's why our local farmers needs our support and even though we are still students we can help them gaining their rights through the use of social media.
